People who need accommodations are not a minority of the audience for this site. They are the audience. So this is a statement of what was actually done, not a badge.

The standard we build to

My Own Manual aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. We believe the site currently meets that standard, with the one exception described below.

What that means in practice

• Everything can be done with a keyboard alone, including moving between modules inside a manual.
• Every control shows a clear focus indicator, and focus never lands on something you cannot see.
• Text meets or exceeds the required contrast, checked by measuring what is actually drawn on screen rather than trusting the stylesheet.
• The scrolling titles on the home page can be stopped, and stop on their own if you have asked your device for reduced motion.
• Asking for reduced motion turns off the opening sequence, the reveal animations, smooth scrolling, and the custom pointer.
• The page works at 200% zoom and at 320 pixels wide with no loss of content and no sideways scrolling.
• Headings, landmarks, and form labels are correct, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
• Form errors are announced, not just colored.
• There is a skip link as the first stop on every page.

How it was tested

Automated testing with axe-core across every page, including all manual pages; keyboard-only walkthroughs of the home page, the finder, a manual page, checkout, sign-in, and the reader; contrast measured from rendered screenshots; and checks at 320 pixels, at 200% zoom, with reduced motion requested, in forced-colors mode, and with JavaScript turned off.

The one deliberate exception

Inside a manual, a faint watermark carrying the buyer’s e-mail address is tiled behind the text. It deters copying and redistribution, which is what keeps these manuals available at this price. It is intentionally very low contrast and it is hidden from screen readers and other assistive technology, so it is decoration rather than content. It carries no information you need. Making it readable would defeat its purpose.

What we have not done

We have not yet run formal testing with people who use assistive technology day to day. That is the next step, and it is worth more than any of the automated testing above.

Tell us and we will fix it. Write to support@myownmanual.com with the page and what happened, and what you were using if you know. We aim to reply within three working days.

If an accessibility problem is stopping you using a manual you have paid for, say so and we will get you the content another way, or refund you, whichever you would rather. We will not make you argue for it.
